Kitchen islands continue to be a top feature for homebuyers. According to the 2024 home design survey by Remodeling marketplace Fixr, buyers are prioritizing features that enhance organization and energy efficiency, along with preferring open and hybrid floor plans.
Kitchen Islands
Kitchen islands remain a must-have, offering additional storage with built-in cabinets and drawers as well as seating for family gathering and meals. This trend is no surprise, as 83 percent of experts cited storage as the primary kitchen priority this year.
Walk-In Pantries
Following kitchen islands, walk-in pantries are the second most sought-after feature. These spacious storage solutions help prevent clutter in over-counter cupboards and provide ample room for food and kitchen supplies.
Energy-Saving Features
Beyond maximizing storage, homebuyers are also keen on energy-saving features that can lower utility costs. A multi-zone HVAC system tops the list, allowing precise temperature control in different areas of the home, improving comfort, and reducing energy consumption.
Floor Plans
While open floor plans remain popular among 53 percent of buyers, hybrid floor plans are also gaining favor. These designs offer the flow of an open plan with dedicated closed spaces for privacy and quiet, such as separate dining or TV rooms.
